I have been such a slacker but wanted to post some photos from Fall 2016. As usual, I had a blast and enjoy every memory my camera captures. Children, Children, Children! One of my favorite things to do is capture little moments that will last a lifetime. Child Portraits are my absolute favorite. I hope you enjoy these child portraits from last fall. johnna brooke photography | Maine Photographer | Child Portraits | Maine Family Photographer
Sports! Who doesn't love being part of a team. I love to watch my boys play sports. Their passion, dedication, drive and enthusiasm for sports and being a part of a team makes my heart sing. If you are ever looking for us you can pretty much find us at a sports field of some sort. Being that sports are such a big part of our lives, I decided to share some of my favorites from last year. The old guy is in fact my husband. Yes, he is a lacrosse player, too. I should add that I am in NO way a Sports Photographer - just a Mama with a camera trying to document my boy's fleeting sports moments. Oh, I dread when these days are over. Enjoy! johnna brooke photography | personal sports photography | greater portland, maine photographer
It is that time of year when I am strapped to my desk, editing High School Senior Portraits until the wee hours of the night. I absolutely love it, as it makes me feel young again. Good Luck to these High School Seniors! johnna brooke photography | Maine High School Senior Portraits | Maine Photographer
I always think I am going to have time to do everything that I want to do and everything that I actually need to do. Yes, I am an optimist, but reality is that I don't have much time at all between work, boys, house, health and hobbies! I have been meaning to share with my fans some personal photos from the last couple of months and today I am going to do just that. These photos are of my boys and our crazy busy world. Most of the photos below were not taken with my "good" cameras; just a good ole' iPhone. They say the best camera is the one that you have with you and my iPhone is always in tow. Enjoy my friends and check back, as I promise to get some new sessions up on the blog very soon. johnna brooke photography | Greater Portland Family Photography
I just love when I am able to photograph repeat clients. I have been photographing this family for about 6 years! I can't believe it has been that long. Some of my favorite photographs include candids of their children! They have the most amazing eyes and the biggest personalities. It is always a blast! Here are a couple of shots from our recent session.
I recently snapped some photos for a friend at her daughter's Bat Mitzvah. It was an amazing day and I feel so honored that I was asked to capture this very special moment in time!
I have been very busy lately and have not had an opportunity to blog about all the great sessions that have been taking place. Family and Newborn Sessions are so fun, as it brings me back to the days that I loved the most with my own family. Those days that I thought would go on forever, those days when I thought I was actually busy, those days when my house and children were actually clean (seriously, my house was cleaner and more organized way back then). I loved when my boys were wee little ones and I miss those days so very much. I use to hate when people would say to me, "it goes by so quickly, enjoy them while you can" - "wait until they are older, then you will know what busy looks like"…….I could go on and on! The funny thing is that I find myself in tears when I say to a client, "enjoy every second, they will be in middle school before you know it!" Seriously, TEARS! This family has been a favorite of mine for years and once again, I am so happy that they trust me to capture their special moments! Don't blink, you just might miss something! johnna brooke photography | South Portland, Maine Photography
Oh, to be young again! I love living vicariously through beautiful, happy, smart young adults! May their future be as bright as their smiles!
I loved this photo session - Especially when the Mom said, "I let them bring their Halloween Costumes!"
Love that they were real and that they let their boys - JUST BE! Happy Halloween! I love when I receive my prints back from the printer! It feels like the best GIFT ever. I smile the entire time that I am adding photos to individual photo envelopes. I take pride in my work - from the sessions, to the editing, to the proofing, to the ordering, to the packaging, to the delivery! It is always my hope that the recipients smile when they open their packages and that they will cherish their photographs for years and years to come! Once again, I was able to live vicariously through one of my clients. Oh, how I miss having itty bitty ones around the house. The best years of my life was taking care of babies! I miss it so! This beautiful little girl was as sweet as can be and her big brother was such a wonderful helper! I had so much fun just hanging with this family for the afternoon. Dad showed up after work right at the end of our session and I was able to snap a couple of photos (he protested….just a little) of the entire family together! Taking photos of families and little ones is my absolute favorite thing to do. I love looking back on my very own personal photographs when my boys were little and it is my hopes that the families that I photograph will treasure their documented afternoons for many years to come! peace - johnna brooke johnna brooke photography | Greater Portland, Maine Photographer | Maine Family Photographer
Hello All! It has been a very busy week for me. Where do I begin? Let's see: 10 soccer practices, 6 soccer games, 2 academic open houses, work, grocery shopping, house cleaning, 2 photo sessions, tons of breakfast and dinners and should I dare mention - wrestling matches between my three boys! We are all crazy busy! I get it! But I wanted to remind all of you to get out to your local farmer's market for some wonderful end of summer, start of fall vegetables! This past week, I had the pleasure of doing some freelance photography work for a company that was an exhibitor at the Common Ground Fair in Unity, Maine! It was fantastic. Sweet Annie and Patchouli field the air and the beautiful colors of the Farmer's Market can't even be described! I loved every single minute of my work. I left the fair with tons of veggies and, of course, a huge bunch of Sweet Annie! I hope to make it back to Unity every single year to get my fill! The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association knows how to put on a fair! If you have never been before, put it on your calendar for next year! AMAZING! Below are some photos that I snapped in between exhibitions, lectures and product demonstrations! Oh, how I wish you guys could smell all the wonderful fair scents. It is a feast for the senses for sure! As I type, my husband is with my three little boys at the Cumberland County Fair! I hope they bring me home some fresh Maine Goods! Stay tuned for more previews! Peace - johnna brooke johnna brooke photography | Maine Photographer | Common Ground Fair | Farmer's Market
This beautiful family purchased my donated Session Package at the Ted Hellier Fundraiser event last winter. It gave me great pleasure to photograph them knowing that they did their part in helping a fellow friend! I always have so much fun with families, especially, families with dogs! Check out how we just let their family friend do as she pleased. Some of my favorite shots were the candid shots that the pup just happened to appear! Dogs are very much like little kids; they can't be forced to sit still and the best shots are always the candids! Give them time, they always come around. The first photo makes me laugh! It is like she was channeling Balto! Enjoy this very small preview! Peace - johnna brooke johnna brooke photography | Greater Portland, Maine Photographer | Maine Family Photographer
So, who remembers this adorable little guy? Ok, so there was a reason why you only so the back of him after he changes his outfit! Let's see if you can guess! Look Closely! Come on, you see it! Do you? Keep Looking! That's right! You guessed it! My favorite subjects are welcoming another little one to their family! Congrats to Lindsay and Buck! Just so you know, I was not let in on the secret until the last 10 minutes of our session, when the "Mama" pulled out a shirt and changed her little boy, set him down and I was all like…..STOP IT! Tears, people. Tears! I really loved being part of such a special moment! I feel honored to have been in on their little secret and I feel even more honored that they have allowed me to finally share with all my readers and followers their BIG SURPRISE! I love you guys and can't wait to celebrate MORE special events with you! Peace - johnna brooke johnna brooke photography | Portland, Maine Photography | Family Photography, Maine
Let's talk relationships. I have photographed this family many times: wedding, maternity, newborn and now 1 year old family photos. I love my relationships with my clients. This little boy is the cutest thing EVER. He is so happy and so very handsome. I loved that this family picked the waterfront in Portland, Maine for their family session. But what I love the most is that this Mom and Dad let their 1 year old just BE! They let him down, they let him crawl, they did not hover and they had fun. Relaxed Parents - love them so much. I can't wait for birthday #2! You guys will always hold a very special place in my heart! Thanks for the awesome photo shoot! It has been awhile since I have captured my children how I really see them. All three of them together, laughing and cutting up with one another. Sure they fight, sure they drive me nuts, sure they are messy little boys but I would not have it any other way. When I capture photos like these all the nonsense and chaos of our lives leave and I am left with memories of all of our beautiful fleeting moments together. I love when I snap a photo that truly reflects reality. My reality? - These happy, crazy, wild, funny, precious boys. They give me so very much joy! I feel blessed. I am gearing up for a couple of photo shoots this week and it is my hope that I capture my clients very own realities! I promise to give a preview; stay tuned. Last week was a transition week for me. In between wrapping up my old job and starting my new job, I had some time to snap a couple of personal photos! Of course we were at our two favorite places in the world…1) Peaks Island 2) Any Lacrosse Field. This is where my love of photography began; documenting my children! Enjoy. I am Back! | Portland, Maine Photographer | Small Business Guru | I Have Something to SAY!6/13/2013 It has been a long time since I have sat down and blogged about my business, or personal life for that matter. Well, you see, I took a year off to try on the corporate hat for the 2nd time. Although I enjoyed the last year immensely, I am really looking forward to getting Johnna Brooke back up and running. I know that I have let a lot of my past clients down during the past year — but hope that you will let me make it up to you. With my new flexible "real" job I will now have a better work/life balance and plan on doing what I love: spending more time with my family, helping out small businesses with all their branding and web presence needs and creating and documenting memories for old and new clients! I have lots to say and hope to be able to integrate both my personal and professional life into one seamless enjoyable blog! You want to talk Mommy Wars? I have opinions…from both sides. Want to talk business? I can do that, too! In fact, with my past year experience of working for an upscale retailer, I have a lot to say about building brand loyalty. Want to talk about social media marketing? Follow me, I am ready to swing the bat and shoot for the fence! Just to get you excited about what is to come, check out some work that I did this past year while juggling 3 very wild and busy little boys and one extremely time consuming traveling J-O-B! Oh and I did keep my toilets clean! Ok, they were only clean when I knew I was having visitors! Enjoy your preview of what's to come……. This is from a recent session I did for a friend, who just happens to have some beautiful blue eyes and a personality that ROCKS. I really want to photograph her on her bike, which is one of her many loves, but of course, I will need to purchase a faster lens.
I could go on and on and on about how much I love this couple and their new addition but wouldn't you rather just see their beautiful photos! Honestly, I have never had a more calm, relaxing and enjoyable photo session before. Yes, I could go on and on and on! But here he is: Watch the Video! I feel so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place. I try very hard to get out and explore my little corner of the world with my children as often as I can. All of my boys love being outside, but my middle son is in love and obsessed with nature and going on hikes. He has such a big imagination and really loves to explore. I am always amazed at what we discover during our jaunts. This week was vacation week and we managed several hiking outings in our hood. We heard a fox, saw a weasel on the beach, counted birds, looked for animal footprints, picked up drift wood, collected sea glass, blew milk weed pods, and totally took advantage of the crisp fresh air and near 50 degree temperatures. We also hit some playgrounds and my oldest son played lacrosse everyday! Yes, we were busy. We loved being outside. And, I loved hanging with my boys in our hood. Peace - johnna brooke Ft.
